Service/Repair Breitling calibre Venus 188

Breitling project

Anders sent me this Breitling, the dial has a beautifully patinated black dial, but it’s missing both pushers and the mainspring is broken.

Movement looks very good.

Taking the movement out of the case I notice the broken off bit from the chronograph start stop lever.

IMG_5535

Anders wants nothing done to the dial or hands and the compound seems stable, so I leave it like it is.

Setting/winding mechanism.

IMG_5539

Movement is in very good condition with the exception of some broken parts.

IMG_5542

Chronograph layer comes apart without any problems,

I’m now down to the base movement.

Here you can see the gear train layout with the train bridge removed.

As expected a broken main spring.

After cleaning the movement I put the balance jewels back in place and see that the balance moves like it should.

New mainspring.

IMG_5870

The centre wheel pinion has a broken leaf from when the mainspring broke and needs to be replaced.

I start putting the movement back together.

Base movement almost back together.

IMG_5827

I now have a beating base movement.

IMG_5830

Thats pretty good considering this was a dead watch!:)

I manage to remove the old pusher tubes without damaging the thread in the case.

Movement back together and in the case.

Case has got some new pushers and looks great.
