Service IWC Shaffhausen chronograph calibre C.79320/ETA 7750

IMG_3918

The same client that sent the Rolex in has now sent in his IWC. Like the Rolex, this watch also stopped abruptly after a game of golf.

IMG_3921

Well it’s very obvious what made this watch stop! as the watch has not been serviced in a long time we also decide a full service is in order.

IMG_4216

Important not to forget the pusher extender piece.

IMG_4218

Dial removed you can see the day date mechanism.

IMG_4222

The date ring sits on a separate plate that comes off the movement.

IMG_4224

With the plate removed you get to the hour recorder, day/date wheels and the setting/winding mechanism.

IMG_4227

Time to start taking apart the upper chronograph layer.

IMG_4229

The reverser wheel is held in place by the same bridge that holds the second and minute recorder in place.

IMG_4231

You can see there is quite a bit of dirt.

IMG_4239

Almost down to the base movement.

IMG_4246

Here you can see the setting/winding mechanism.

IMG_4248

Here you can see the gear train layout and the hacking lever.

IMG_4250

Old mainspring

IMG_4348

Movement cleaned and ready to be put back together.

IMG_4349

IMG_4350

I see the balance moves freely after fitting the cap jewels.

IMG_4351

Gear train coming back into the movement.

IMG_4353

Base movement back together and ticking.

IMG_4354

Super performance.

IMG_4356

Chronograph layer coming back in place.

IMG_4357

Day and date back in place and working as it should.

IMG_4364

Dial and hands on the movement and I test that everything works like it should.

IMG_4465

Movement goes back into the movement.

IMG_4467

Another watch that from now on will stay away from the golf fields;)

This guy must have a serious golf swing…don’t know if it’s a good or bad one…but must be interesting to watch! 😝

  2. Gary says:

Great and fantastic work as always! Mitka, I have a question. How long does a complicated movement like this take yo to disassemble, clean, and reassemble?

      Hi Gary,

You never know how long it will take.

Sometimes it’s a straight forward job and it will take about 4-5 hours. Other times there are unexpected issues that add several hours of work…

Are you serious? what impact force does it take to displace that spring? I think that is the most powerful spring in the 7750 (besides the mainspring)!
    Great work, btw!
