Service Zodiac Sea Wolf calibre 70-72

P1040615 A client has sent in his Zodiac. It badly needs some attention. The first thing I notice is that the bezel does not turn and that the rotor is clanking against the case back.
P1040617

Movement looks decent.

P1040618

The rotor post is broken. Hence why the rotor is clanking around

P1040620

Here you can see where the rotor post is broken.

P1040621

These Zodiacs have a funky micro regulator.

P1040624

Dial is in very good condition!

P1040625

I remove the hands and dial.

P1040627

I start taking the date mechanism apart.

P1040629

I now start taking the setting/winding mechanism apart.

P1040630

Movement almost taken apart.

P1040632

Here you can see the gear train layout. Nice hacking lever construction.

P1040633

The dreaded 2nd wheel with the clutch pinion. I used to hate taking these apart because if they brake, there are not too many spares left out there…

P1040634

Using the Platax tool I can rest the clutch pinion on the Collet remover and safely press out the 2nd wheel arbour.

P1040637

The barrel is actually riveted shut..

P1040638

And leaving it closed is no option… Look how dirty it is!

P1040640

Dirty!! No wonder the Bezel does not turn..

P1040641

Movement cleaned and ready to be put back together.

P1040643

Mainspring cleaned and back in the barrel, you can see the carnage from opening it… If you have a better suggestion please let me know!:)

P1040756

I see that the balance moves freely after fitting the shock protection jewels.

P1040758

Clutch is oiled and pressed back onto the 2nd wheel.

P1040759

Gear train back together looking good! I like the jewelled barrel bushes.

P1040762

Date and winding/setting mechanism back in place.

P1040763

Dial and hands back on the movement.

P1040804

Movement goes back into the case.

P1040805

I fit the autowinder gears and bridge. Now with a new rotor post!

P1040806

Now the rotor works perfectly.

P1040807

Very good performance.

P1040809

Now that looks a lot better than before!

Mitka, great walk through as always! Is that regulator mechanically beneficial or more for aesthetics to give it a complicated look?
Thanks again for sharing! Always exciting to see a new post!
