This Alpina is a true survivor. Most of these cases were melted as scrap gold, but this one has survived and is in amazing condition. It’s not keeping very good time and can do with a service.

Like the outside of the watch, the movement looks to be in excellent condition.
I start by removing the autowinder mechanism.
I align the hands before removing them.
Broken setting lever spring.
I have a new setting lever in stock. It was marked for a 586, but as the setting mechanism is identical it’s no problem;)
I turn the movement around and start taking the gear train apart.
Gear train almost apart. Here you can see the serial number. The first three digits hides underneath the train bridge.
The barrel has a friction spring that hooks onto the regular mainspring allowing it to slip.
All the parts are cleaned, looking like the day they were first put together.
I fit the mainspring in the barrel.
I see that the balance moves freely after fitting the cap jewels.
Gear train almost back together.
Setting/winding mechanism back together.
I now have a running movement.
Nothing wrong with the performance of this 70 year old classic!
Dial and hands back onto the movement.
Now that is a great looking movement!
