Alpina 582

P1030434 This Alpina is a true survivor. Most of these cases were melted as scrap gold, but this one has survived and is in amazing condition. It’s not keeping very good time and can do with a service.
P1060064

I always appreciate a dust cover!

P1060065

Like the outside of the watch, the movement looks to be in excellent condition.

P1060068

I start by removing the autowinder mechanism.

P1060070

I align the hands before removing them.

P1060072

Broken setting lever spring.

P1060074

I have a new setting lever in stock. It was marked for a 586, but as the setting mechanism is identical it’s no problem;)

P1060075

I turn the movement around and start taking the gear train apart.

P1060076

Gear train almost apart. Here you can see the serial number. The first three digits hides underneath the train bridge.

P1060079

The barrel has a friction spring that hooks onto the regular mainspring allowing it to slip.

P1060169

All the parts are cleaned, looking like the day they were first put together.

P1060442

I fit the mainspring in the barrel.

P1060444

I see that the balance moves freely after fitting the cap jewels.

P1060445

Gear train almost back together.

P1060448

Setting/winding mechanism back together.

P1060447

I now have a running movement.

P1060454

Nothing wrong with the performance of this 70 year old classic!

P1060449

Dial and hands back onto the movement.

P1060450

Now that is a great looking movement!

P1060460

What more do you want?

P1060462

As it’s a part of my collection I also get to wear it;)
