Mitka's vintage watch service.

Service: Seiko Sportsman calibre 175

IMG_5709

I’m travelling to Japan tomorrow and will be away the next 11days. Maja my partner took a fancy to the Seiko Crown I did last week and I needed to service another one of my Japanese classics. This super cool Sportsman has a futuristic space-age dial from the early 60’s.

Performing like a wet cat, no doubt it needs  service.

Movement looks to be in great condition.

Here you can see the setting/winding mechanism.

There is some goo under all the bridges, I suspect someone has cleaned the movement without taking it apart and this is the leftover cleaning fluid which has turned funny.

Movement almost taken apart.

Old mainspring is covered in the same goo.

Movement cleaned and ready to be put back together.

Clean mainspring in the barrel.

Clean and nice gear train coming together.

Movement almost back together.

Oh snap, the setting lever spring screw broke in half while securing it in place. Luckily I managed to wiggle it out.

New screw fitted. Underneath the goo you can see the effects of finger prints left on a movement for several decades. It has etched marks into the finishes.

Movement back together ticking well. I like the functional and robust design of this movement.

Performs great as well!

Movement ready for the dial and hands.

Some marks on the dial, but it still has a nice shine to it and the design is just awesome!

Movement in the case looking good!

The future is here!

Next stop Tokyo!

I will not be available between 04.05.2017-15.05.2017
