Buren calibre 1280 review.

Wow this is a cool one! Buren calibre: 1280. This was the second generation automatic movement from Buren where the oscillating autowinder mechanism and weight is integrated on the same level as the gear-train. Launched in 1962 it was thinner and more efficient than their first generation calibre 1000 that had been launched in 1957. Hans Kocher, Chief Design Engineer at Buren, referred to the design as “Planetary” as the smaller rotor resembled a planetary gear. Universal Geneve had been developing an almost identical automatic design launched a year later (1958) that they nicknamed: “microrotor”. The micro rotor name is the one we generally refer to today while talking about the Buren calibre 1000 and later generations.
