In 1964 Seiko released their first chronograph. This was known as the calibre 5717 (Date) 5719 (No date) the base movement was based on their calibre 560; used in their crown watches. Hence it’s sometimes nicknamed: Crown chronograph. This first attempt was a single pusher mechanism: Start, Stop, reset. It only drives a seconds recorder, but the various case designs feature a rotating bezel allowing you to count 60 min from rotating the bezel to minute hand location when you start the chronograph.
This 5719-8990 was not running and needed a routine service together with a new mainspring.
