Service: Record Geneve rattrapante, moon-face,date/Venus calibre 190

IMG_4153

A client sent in this rare beast after we agreed I would not be held accountable if anything was to go wrong;) The watch is running but the second second recorder does not reset to zero position.

IMG_4157

Watch is preforming okay, but we decide to go for a full service.

IMG_4158

Nice looking construction or an invitation to trouble?

IMG_4160

The second second recorder is placed in the centre of the first second recorder and is held in place by a brake when not engaged.

IMG_4161

I start by removing the hands.

IMG_4162

I find it easier to remove some of the components before taking the movement out of the case.

IMG_4169

Here you can see the Column wheel that engages and disengages the second recorder wheel.

IMG_4173

The second second recorder is engaged with a lever that is linked to a pusher in the centre of the crown.

IMG_4186

One part at a time I get closer to the base movement.

IMG_4193

I now take the movement out of the case and start on the dial side.

IMG_4197

Here I lift the moon-face disk out of position.

IMG_4198

There is a date wheel gear underneath the moon-face disk.

IMG_4202

After removing the moon-face and date mechanism I start taking apart the hour recorder mechanism.

IMG_4208

After removing the hour recorder I start on the setting/winding mechanism.

IMG_4195

The intermediate second recorder wheel is so tight on the third wheel pinion I can’t get it off. So I will clean them together.

Old mainspring

IMG_4539

Everything gets cleaned and is ready to be put back together.

IMG_4540

Barrel gets new mainspring.

IMG_4541

I see that the balance moves freely after being put back together.

IMG_4543

I put the running gear back together.

IMG_4545

Hour recorder, winding/setting mechanism back in the movement.

IMG_4547

I start putting in the date and moon-face mechanism.

IMG_4550

I place the movement in the case for easier assembly and testing of the numerous functions.

IMG_4552

Dial side done.

IMG_4553

I adjust the beat error.

IMG_4555

Base movement is running. (I fit the bezel and the old crystal when working on the watch like this)

IMG_4554

Watch preforming well.

IMG_4556

Chronograph layer coming together.

IMG_4568

Movement back together and running.

    Gorgeous!
Do you have any photos of the rattrapante part underside? To see the round jewel on the cam? 😀

  2. That’s a real beauty there! And quite rare. 🙂
Btw, is the case made of gold?
