Service Longines Ultra-Chron calibre: 431

IMG_8414

The Ultra-Chro generation movements are Longines entry to the high beat race of the late 1960’s. This costumer watch is in good condition and needs a routine service.

IMG_8417

This watch is actually keeping decent time, but the amplitude is low and the jewels dry.

IMG_8419

Very nice looking movement

IMG_8420

The osculating weight has washer underneath which is important not to forget.

IMG_8421

The date mechanism is very snappy when changing date.

IMG_8422

Here you can see more of the date mechanism.

IMG_8423

Winding/setting mechanism.

IMG_8427

Here you can see the workings of the auto-winder bridge. The brown wheel is the reverse wheel and it needed changing.

IMG_8429

The gear train coming out. High beats are much more sensitive to dirt than low beat movements.

IMG_8430

Hmmm is the barrel trying to tell me something?

IMG_8431

I don’t like opening these riveted barrels, but in an automatic watch I have to clean the mainspring and put new grease on the barrel walls, or it will not slide properly and can cause the watch to bank.

IMG_8439

Everything cleaned and ready to be put back together.

IMG_8440

The mainspring back in the barrel looking good.

IMG_8597

I see that the balance moves freely.

IMG_8603

Movement comes together without any issues.

IMG_8604

Winding/setting mechanism coming back together.

IMG_8605

Date mechanism back together.

IMG_8606

Auto-winder bridge back together.

IMG_8608

Movement back in the case.

IMG_8602

That’s more like it.

IMG_8609

Great looking movement with performance to match.

IMG_8610

I really like the design of this watch.

You opened the barrel? You fiend. Watch out for the helicopters, they’re looking for you now. 🙂
