Serice: GUB (Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe) calibre 66-22

P1120563A client has sent in his lovely little east German GUB for a service. It’s running well, but the jewels are dry and could do with a routine service.
P1120562

Good amplitude.

P1120565

Little east German dial finish.

P1120566

The movement is nothing fancy, but well made.

P1120567

Dial and hands removed and you can see the setting/winding mechanism.

P1120569

I take apart the non shock protected balance.

P1120570

I start taking the base movement apart.

P1120572

A very unusual feature is the position of the sub second pinion underneath the barrel driven by the third wheel.

P1120573

The mainspring before cleaning.

P1120726

The movement taken apart and cleaned.

P1120775

I fit the sub second pinion.

P1120776

Base movement comes back together.

P1120780

This movement does not feature any of the lavish decoration that you see from watches made in Glashütte today, but it’s solid and well made.

P1120792

It’s a solid performer on top of that.

Watch back together looking good. Probably something a state employee would be rewarded after ratting out his co-worker back in the day;)
