Service IWC 8531

p1130384

This lovely IWC is not preforming very well. It needs a service and some general fixing…

p1130381
Superbly decorated movement. The osculating weight is not quite level. The oscillating weight rotor post has it’s own little cock and it’s a little crooked. I later reshape the cock and it’s level again.

p1130409
Balance is hardly swinging so that reading is bogus…

p1130410
IWC Pellaton winding system is very efficient.

p1130414
Very funky date disk! Note the date disk retaining plate is missing a screw and another screw i wrong.

p1130419
Here you can see the date/setting/winding mechanism.

p1130420
Here you can see the base movement. Very nice micro regulator.

p1130422
I start taking apart the base movement.

p1130424
Here you can see the gear train layout.

p1130426
Here you can see the old mainspring.

p1130728
Movement cleaned and ready to be but back together.

p1130727
Mainspring in the barrel.

p1130729
The hairspring was a little low and touching the balance wheel hindering it’s movement. I reshaped  the hairspring and the balance moves freely.

p1130730
Case movement back together.

p1130733
The pallet impulse pin was a little deformed, giving me strange time graph readings.. Parts are not easy to get by so it ads a little stress when working on. But luckily I did not break anything.

p1130732
Finely running like it should after some hours with the hairspring and pallet fork with thoughts of jumping out the window along the way;)

p1130734

Date mechanism back in place. I have got the correct screws that were missing.

p1130737

Movement goes back into the case.

I fit the autowinder mechanism.

p1130739

Last part to go in place is the oscillating weight.

p1130753

That looks very nice!

Vintage IWC calibre 8531
