Today Tavaness/Cyma is a fairly unknown name; their greatness succumbed to the 1970’s introduction of quarts watches, but back in the early 1900’s they where considered a solid quality brand. In 1929 Tavaness/Cyma had the largest watch making factory in Europe and in the mid 1930’s the company started going upmarket with more lavishly decorated movements. and clever innovations. In the early 1940’s they launched the new calibre 414 as their standard movement. If you click on the link bellow you can see why I so appreciate Cyma watches from this time period.
You can find many interesting watches featuring the calibre 414 including a CymaTriplex model that utilises a special case ring design. The case ring has three screws that expand a side mounted spring that secures the case ring to the case with even pressure all around. You often find this Triplex system in the wider WaterSport models as well. The Watersport being a water-resistant all stainless steel construction are very robust watches. With a wide array of beautifully crafted dials, quality cases and unique hand designs together with a calibre 414 makes me a Cyma fanboy!
