Service Helvetia: calibre 800C

IMG_4115It’s no hidden fact that I’m a big fan of Helvetia and their in-house movements. I suspect this watch has spent the last 70 years in a drawer due to the mainspring breaking. As a result the watch is in super condition.

IMG_4117

Movement looks great.

IMG_4118

Dial and hands are in very good original condition.

IMG_4119

I like the way they have marked the base plate, this is so that you could test timekeeping without the dial.

IMG_4120

Movement may look nice, but it definitely needs a service.

IMG_4122

Fairly complicated shock protection system that is easy to take apart, but a lot more tricky when putting back together.

IMG_4124

This is a fairly complicated construction and the way the third wheel drives the central second pinion is similar to Omega calibre 420.

IMG_4125

The crown wheel is secured from the underside of the barrel bridge.

IMG_4128

As expected the old mainspring is broken.

IMG_4519

After a little practice i get the cap jewels in place and see that the balance moves freely.

IMG_4657

I get a new old stock mainspring.

IMG_4656

New mainspring in the barrel.

IMG_4655

Movement is almost back together.

IMG_4654

The setting/winding mechanism back in place.

IMG_4659

with the hour wheel and washer in place I can fit the dial and hands.

IMG_4660

I love the dial design on this watch.

IMG_4661

Movement is back in it’s case looking great.

IMG_4658

I’m happy with performance!

IMG_4664

Now we are talking. A true survivor of time!

IMG_4668

Yes! I dig it!
