It’s no hidden fact that I’m a big fan of Helvetia and their in-house movements. I suspect this watch has spent the last 70 years in a drawer due to the mainspring breaking. As a result the watch is in super condition.
Movement looks great.
Dial and hands are in very good original condition.
I like the way they have marked the base plate, this is so that you could test timekeeping without the dial.
Movement may look nice, but it definitely needs a service.
Fairly complicated shock protection system that is easy to take apart, but a lot more tricky when putting back together.
This is a fairly complicated construction and the way the third wheel drives the central second pinion is similar to Omega calibre 420.
The crown wheel is secured from the underside of the barrel bridge.
As expected the old mainspring is broken.
After a little practice i get the cap jewels in place and see that the balance moves freely.
I get a new old stock mainspring.
New mainspring in the barrel.
Movement is almost back together.
The setting/winding mechanism back in place.
with the hour wheel and washer in place I can fit the dial and hands.
