A client has sent in her classic Cartier Tank watch. It was bought supposedly newly serviced on e-bay 6 moths ago. It has stopped running and I will investigate the problem.
There is quite a bit of fibres and dirt on the dial.
There is some rust damage.
Removing the hands and dial I can immediately see what has caused this watch to stop. The third wheel pivot has rusted and seized the movement.
The old mainspring.
All the parts have been cleaned and are ready to go back together.
I fit the cap jewels and see that the balance moves freely.
New mainspring goes in the barrel.
I get a new third wheel from a donor movement.
Movement almost back together.
Winding/setting mechanism goes back in place. The plate has cleaned up pretty well.
