Swatch group does not want independent watch repairers to work on their products. Unfortunately they own a lot of brands including Omega watch co. They stopped supplying spare parts to independents 1/1/2016. You can become accredited, but it will cost about the same as a new house, car and child; to acquire the list of approved equipment to qualify. Not an option for the most independents.
Their argument is as following: It is in the consumers best interest that only Swatch group watch repairers work on watches from brands they own as it’s the only way to ensure a job is done to an acceptible standard. I suspect it’s more about monopolising a market. Their service prices are more than twice the price Mitka.co.uk charges.
A client sent me his Omega Speedster Co-Axial chronometer with this calibre: 3330. Not running and an issue with the oscilating weight. I initially said no I can’t take the risk on working on it, but he agreed not to hold me accountable should I break something. Now my risk is more related to time spent on something I might not be able to fix due to no access to parts… I’m now thinking; well if Swatch does not want me to then I might as well do it!
